As an example students can become suspect in the eyes of professors when they continue to ask for extensions or more time, and often get either assumed to have an unaccommodated disabled or assumed to have poor time management - in this case since an individual needs more time or needs to move through time in ways that are outside the expected norm, their usage of time is surveilled.

Example of Time Surveillance

Price highlights that systems of timekeeping have and continue to lead to a obscuring of how elites spend their time but often include a surveilling and encouraging of self surveillance of how the masses spend their time, this leads to differential effects of academic time and other systems of time based on a subject's position.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, women faculty were often expected to take on both increased academic pressures coming from university directive to do more with less time whilst also being forced to take down the brunt of familial care responsibilities during lock-down. Additionally Black and other faculty of color also had pressure to do more work while their communities experienced higher mortality rates from COVID-19 because of racial disparities in healthcare. White male faculty experienced the pandemic as slowing down and thus used this time to develop more professionally - widening the gaps already experienced because of racism and misogyny in academia.
