Access washing is the idea put forth by Stacy Milbern Park that policies or practices that create access for white and wealthy disabled populations, or have the goal of creating access can harm communities of color, poor communities, and working class communities despite the disproportionate amount of poor, POC, and working class disabled people.

Hamraie, in light of access friction and access washing, poses that access is not always a self-evident good and we should take a critical eye to what is access and who access serves.

Charles Moran used the phrase access as an A-word to describe how access can be easy to name and think about but difficult to always enact in practice.
