Discrimination can also be an issue for accommodating disabilities as for some institutions it is far easier to ignore/repel people with disabilities then it is to give help. This is an issue that needs to be resolved as the library and information institutions are meant to be a place for all that want as well as need it.

The major issue is that disabilities cover a wide spectrum of physical and mental behaviors that differ from person to person. Learning, print, mental, physical, and motor function disabilities require different sets of accommodations.

Two ways to begin to understand/develop accommodations is to workshop what type of solutions are there for the particular disabilities present and the other is to develop one-shot lessons on how these disabilities affect people so that librarians can offer the right accommodations.

Autism and it's spectrum is a developmental disorder that affects language, communication, social skills, and behaviors. Depending on the level of spectrum on the autism scale, librarians and literacy may need to be taught individually or in circumstances where the autistic learner is comfortable as well as open to literacy learning. These are achieved through the 3 Rs:
- Repetition
- Routine
- Redundancy
