Bruno's Profit Maximization Strategy Under Legal Constraints

Operating under the new legal framework, Bruno's profit-maximizing strategy is to propose a contract at the intersection of the two legal limits. He offers the maximum allowed working hours (4.5) to maximize total grain production, while simultaneously offering the minimum required wage (23 bushels) to keep his own share as large as possible. Any other legally permissible offer, such as one with more free time for Angela, would be suboptimal for him because it would lower the total output, and with the wage fixed at a minimum of 23 bushels, his own profit would necessarily decrease.
