Adrenarche refers to a type of secondary sexual characteristic where the adrenal glands mature. 

Secondary sexual characteristics are the physical signs of sexual maturation that are not directly involved in reproduction. These characteristics develop during puberty and include the development of breasts and hips in females, and the growth of facial hair and a deepening voice in males.
