Psychometric Properties of the Pregnancy-Related Anxiety Scale—Screener

3 samples. Sample 1 was recruited on Facebook. Sample 2 was from a previous study on childhood trauma and pregnancy-related anxiety. High risk pregnancies excluded from samples 1 and 2. Sample 3 was from a previous study and included some high risk pregnancies.

Focused on 5 factors with the most variance. The factors together explained 81.08% of the variance, and included the labels body image (39.03%), Baby Concerns (13.37%), Medical Staff (12.39%), Anxiety Symptoms (9.19%), and Childbirth (7.12%). Better internal consistency than PRAS-S Model 2 for Study on Psychometric Properties of PRAS-S.

Took the highest loading items from the 8 subscales. The factors together explained 64.22% of the variance and the labels included Childbirth Attitudes (33.375%), Body Image (12.249%), Anxiety (10.558%), and Baby Concerns (8.039%).

PRAS-S correlated with PASS excessive fears and general worries; PRAQ-R2; and CWS. PRAS-S correlated less with EDS, STAI-S6 (state anxiety), anxiety disorders symptoms in PASS, and neuroticism in IPIP-N.

Negative correlations between PRAS-S and the demographic variables of birth order, education level, gestational age, and maternal age.

Baby Concerns, Childbirth, and Body Image PRAS-S subscales correlated and had convergent validity with PRAQ-R2, and CWS Sociomedical subscale. Body Image subscale correlated with IPIP-N. Medical staff subscale had greatest amount of variance but didn’t correlate much with other measures (PRAQ-R2, PASS, EDS, IPIP-N, and CWS subscales).
