Alcohol use and psychological distress among sexual and gender minority students: Participants & Methods

  • 509 (AFAB=397, AMAB=110) SGM university students, with a mean age of 22.04, were recruited as participants in this study between May 27th, and August 14th, 2020.
  • Participants had to self-identify as full-time university students in the U.S., and had to be at least 18 years old to be eligible.
  • The Kessler-10 (K10) scale was used to measure current psychological distress on a 5-point Likert scale.
  • Participants were also asked to self-report if their alcohol use had changed since the start of COVID-19.
  • Participants also provided additional demographic information in addition to sexuality or gender, including parent finances, race, and age.
