An analysis of COVID-19 article dissemination by Twitter compared to citation rates results
- Tweet rates higher than citation rates – citation rates is not the best measure of article dissemination, at least relative to tweets
- Positive association between impact factor and tweet rate – higher impact journals would reach wider audience and be tweeted more
- Negative association between open access journals and tweet rate
- Negative association between impact factor and open access status – journals with higher impact scores require subscriptions and therefore would not be as easily accessible or tweeted
