Analysis of a Failed Chore Negotiation

Three housemates, Alex, Ben, and Chloe, are trying to decide how to keep their shared apartment clean. Alex proposes they all contribute money to hire a weekly cleaning service. Ben suggests creating a rotating chore chart where each person takes a turn doing all the cleaning for a week. Chloe argues that everyone should simply be responsible for cleaning up their own messes immediately. After a long discussion, they cannot agree, and the apartment remains messy.

Analyze this negotiation failure. In your response, identify each housemate's position, infer their likely underlying interests or values (e.g., what is most important to them in a solution), and explain the key factors that prevented them from reaching a mutually beneficial agreement.
