Analysis of a Producer's Choice

A self-sufficient farmer produces grain and also values free time. The farmer is currently at a production level on their feasible frontier where the following two conditions hold:

  1. To gain one more hour of free time, they must give up producing 8 bushels of grain.
  2. They would be personally willing to give up a maximum of 5 bushels of grain to gain one more hour of free time.

Analyze this farmer's current situation. Is the farmer maximizing their overall satisfaction (utility)? Explain your reasoning in detail, and state what, if anything, the farmer should do to improve their well-being.
