Analyzing Credit Market Features

Some individuals are denied loans even when they are willing to pay a high interest rate, a phenomenon sometimes called 'credit rationing'. Analyze this market outcome by considering two distinct economic problems: 1) the trade-offs individuals make when choosing to consume now versus in the future, and 2) the conflicts of interest that can arise between a lender and a borrower. Explain how both of these problems, when considered together, provide a more complete explanation for this phenomenon than either problem could on its own.
