Short Answer

Analyzing Production Costs

A firm is considering producing one additional unit of output. To do so, it must hire one more employee. Because the firm must offer a higher wage to attract this new employee, it also decides to raise the wage for all of its current employees to the same new, higher level. Explain why the cost of producing this single additional unit is greater than the firm's average cost of production per unit.
