Analyzing the Determinants of Worker Motivation

A firm pays its employees a wage that is significantly higher than what they could earn in alternative jobs or receive from unemployment benefits. This creates a strong incentive for employees to work diligently to avoid being dismissed. Analyze the key economic factors that would increase or decrease the size of this incentive for an individual worker. In your answer, break down at least three distinct factors and explain the mechanism through which each one affects the worker's motivation.
