Analyzing the Full Cost of Capital for a Business

A manufacturing firm builds a new factory for $50 million. The company financed this purchase by issuing new shares to investors. An accountant would record the $50 million as the cost of the factory. An economist, however, would argue that the true economic cost of using this factory in production is higher than just its purchase price. Explain the economist's reasoning. In your answer, break down the different components that constitute the full economic cost of this capital.
