In fragmentation, nucleoids accumulate within an enlarged round cell or along a filament, they can make multiple new cells simultaneously. These daughter cells often detach from the parent filament and disperse independently.

Budding occurs when one end of the species forms an extension that eventually will swell and break off to form the daughter cell. It is most commonly observed in yeast.
