Asthma as a Comorbidity of COVID-19

Research on asthma as a comorbidity of COVID-19 shows a complex relationship. While some findings indicate that asthma can prolong intubation times and hospitalizations (particularly in younger patients), other research suggests Th2 immune cells in asthmatics could be protective by suppressing hyperactive type I interferon expression and reducing the risk of cytokine storm syndrome. Continuing daily controller medication adherence is also associated with better outcomes.
