Attachment theory mitigating well-being & object attachment

Objects can act as a solution to the threats posed by attachment anxiety. Studies have found that when individuals experiencing doubts about close relationships (compared to doubts about themselves or other people, they report a greater sense of attachment to their belongings on a clinical hoarding assessment, and also demonstrate greater separation anxiety when their personal objects are absent. Objects may be particularly attractive to individuals with this attachment style, as they offer a more predictable and controllable source of support. Supporting this model further, research has found a specific correlation between object attachment and attachment anxiety (uncertainty about others) but not avoidance (rejection of others).
