Both Autism Speaks and Generation Rescue due to their primary goals being to "find a cure" for Autism, their ties to the disproven belief that autism could be caused by vaccines, and due to their support of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy - an often traumatic therapy used on autistic kids which has been likened to conversion therapy, have been labeled as hate groups by the autistic community. 

However, due to the multi-billion dollar Autism Industrial Complex, upheld by societal ableism, despite the best efforts of the autistic community Autism Speaks and Generation Patient for many allistic folks are still seen as mainstream autism advocacy charities so thus influence the way many ballistics view autism.

A Note on Autism Speaks and Generation Rescue

Both Autism Speaks and Generation Rescue are fronted by white celebrities.

 Suzanne Wright - a spokesperson for Autism Speaks- uses her ties to the media industry to regularly appear on talk shows such as "Oprah" and "Good Morning America." Both Wright and Jenny McCarthy - a famous comedic actress and spokesperson for Generation Rescue - tend to tout how from their position as a grandmother and a mother to autistic children, respectively, they know firsthand the affects autism can have on several generations of white families.
