Background on Impacts of Social Media
The presence of social media has increased, and teenagers have access to electronic devices and different social media platforms. Social media has become a key factor in society, and people heavily rely on it to connect and communicate with others. Evidence has shown that social media usage has increased significantly, where 46% of teens reported using the internet in 2018, and the % in 2019 increased by 9%. Studies have also highlighted how social media impacts teens and can influence their attitudes and behaviors. This is where mental health comes into play as well, where there are different arguments on both the positive and negative impacts of social media. While the positive effects of social media would be networking and being able to express themselves, the negative impacts would include becoming depressed, anxious, and stressed.
