Short Answer

Beekeeping and Crop Pollination

A beekeeper sets up hives to produce and sell honey. The bees also pollinate the apple orchards of a neighboring farm, increasing the farm's apple yield. In the market for beekeeping services, explain the relationship between the benefit the beekeeper receives for an additional hive and the total benefit society receives from that same hive. Will the beekeeper, acting alone, likely maintain the socially optimal number of hives? Why or why not?
