Concept

Behavioral vision therapy

  • Also known as perceptual learning
  • Use of various exercises and activities in order to work with the plasticity of the brain in order to help with loss of visual perception
  • Although visual plasticity is most often associated with children, recent research suggests that the brain has significant plasticity in adulthood, allowing for therapies like these to work even for adults
  • Often used to help with simple tasks, such as contrast and shape differentiation
  • Not very common, but the field is growing
