Byllye Avery's brother had multiple scelerosis and Avery discussed in her activism work the pain her brother went through before he was diagnosed. Avery's husband died of a heart attack when he was 33 years old. Avery later said that her husband was hypertensive and despite her husband having been through a couple exams shortly before his death that would've told doctors he was hypertensive all the doctor told Avery's husband was to exercise and diet.
