Can the way that adolescents interact with social media lead to either positive or negative body image/self perception?

Interestingly enough, one study suggests that some adolescents can have increased self-perception through social media. They suggest that there are two ways to use social media, one being "self-oriented" and the other "other-oriented" (again, mostly for adolescent girls). With a self-oriented approach, users tend to post more of their own content, therefore receiving more positive responses that lead to their increased self-perceived. However, the other-oriented approach leads to users monitoring more on social media than contributing their own content. Therefore, they see others in a highlight real receiving many positive comments, and therefore tend to compare themselves to what they are seeing. The other-oriented approach is believed to correlate with depression and low self-perception.
