Cannabis Use Disorder Sex and Gender-Related Diagnostic Issues

In comparison to men, women tend to report more severe cannabis withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms primarily involve mood-related issues such as irritability, restlessness, and anger. Women also experience gastrointestinal symptoms like stomachaches and nausea during cannabis withdrawal. These more intense withdrawal symptoms in women may contribute to a faster progression from initial cannabis use to the development of cannabis use disorder, a phenomenon known as telescoping.
