Carol Dweck on Success and Motivation

Carol Dweck is a researcher in the field of motivation. She looks into why people succeed (or don't) and how to foster success. In the Ted Talk titled "The Power of Believing that You Can Improve" she discusses her findings. She mentions how scientists measured the electrical activity from the brain as students confronted an error. On the left, was the fixed-mindset students. There was hardly any activity. The lack of activity signifies how children with a fixed mindset run from the error. They do not engage with it.

However, on the right, the students with the growth mindset (who believe that abilities can be developed) engage deeply. There was a lot of activity shown on the scan. The kids process the error, learn from it and correct it.
