Parental involvement can occur in two broad settings. School-based involvement consists of parents interacting directly with a child's school, such as attending meetings or events, communicating with teachers, or volunteering. Home-based involvement consists of parents supporting education outside school, such as helping with homework, discussing academic matters, or assisting with course selection.

Parenting style greatly effects the impact of children’s ability to interact in their social environment in interpreting and gaining guidance in social cues. The variability in a parent’s consistency to show up and teach their kids how to problem solving will instill early patterns of behavior in the child that will influence a child’s achievement and interpersonal relations. 

Parental involvement

Children who were provided with problem solving solutions and positive affects by their mothers as effective scaffolding were related to socially competent behavior and cognitive competence in those children.
