COVID-19 is primarily transmitted from human-to-human by several means, namely by respiratory particles (such as droplets and aerosols) and fomites (inanimate objects that, upon exposure to viral particles, are able to transfer those particles to humans). Viral particles are often “globs” of mucus, saliva and water. These particles are differentiated by their size (aerodynamic diameter) and to a lesser extent, their behavior in air (lingering time in air and ability to penetrate alveoli).
