Cause of Upward-Sloping MPC in Banana Production

In the Weevokil banana production example, the marginal private cost (MPC) increases with output, resulting in an upward-sloping curve. The reason for this is that as banana production expands, the land is used more intensively, which requires larger amounts of the Weevokil pesticide and raises the cost of producing each additional ton.
