Causation

Causes for the Decline in Unstructured Play

A decrease in unstructured play among children can be attributed to several factors. One reason is the overscheduling of children's lives with various activities, which leaves little room for free time. Another contributing factor stems from school policies, where recess may be eliminated to dedicate more time to academics for standardized testing, or used as a form of punishment.
