Causes of a Real Appreciation

A real appreciation can be triggered by two types of events: a nominal appreciation, where the home currency strengthens against the foreign currency, or a change in the relative price levels between the two countries, such as when domestic inflation exceeds foreign inflation while the nominal exchange rate remains constant.
