Concept
CD147
Cluster of Differentiation 147, or CD147, is a transmembrane protein that is a part of the immunoglobulin super family. Primarily, it acts as the upstream regulator of metalloproteinases (MMPs). Both CD147 and MMP expression have been found to be increased in inflammation and tumors. Therefore, they are biomarkers that are associated with cancer progression. CD147 is also known as Basigin (BSG) and extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (Emmprin).
