Characteristics of initial psychotic episode in schizophrenia (patient study group)

  • premorbid characteristics: cluster A personality disorder (schizotypal), close family member(s) with psychotic disorder(s), obstetric nd/or perinatal complications
  • sex and age: men > women; 18-25
  • psychiatric prodromes: months-years (1-5a); cognitive symptoms (verbal and working memory, processing speed)
  • onset: functional deterioration
  • phenomenology: negative symptoms, diminished/brief psychotic symptoms may occur
