Working Poor: people who spend at least 27 weeks of year in the labor force but income still fell below official poverty level; Many individuals in the working poor suffer with inadequate housing, poor diet, bad schools and lack of medical attention
Characteristics:
- More Women than Men
- More Black and Hispanic individuals than White and Asians
- Families headed by women are more likely to be poor than those headed by men
- Full time workers are less likely to be poor than part time workers
- People with higher education are less likely to be apart of the working poor
-Service occupations account for nearly 40% of the working poor
