Characterization of the #Radiology Twitter Conversation During the Global COVID-19 Pandemic results

  • Collected a total of 10,093 tweets that had both the hashtag and Covid-19 keywords and 68,172 tweets with the hashtag but no Covid-19 content from 2809 users who generated a total of 65,513,669 impressions
  • 48.8% of tweets with #Radiology were retweeted
  • 51.0% of tweets with #Radiology and Covid-19 content were retweeted
  • Tweets with Covid-19 content typically had more links to educational resources such as webinars, journal articles, and other informational sites – most shared links were medical and advocacy organizations and open-access resources
  • Most popular tweets were about literature and case studies on diagnosis imaging choice
  • 40.38% of tweets written by physicians, who made up 48.10% of Twitter users in the radiology community
  • Researchers were the second largest group in terms of retweets (10.84%)
  • Increase in tweets and impressions without Covid-19 content after annual RSNA conferences in mid to late November
  • Increase in new users mid-March tweeting about Covid-19
