Childhood Traumatic Stress: Hippocampus and Cortisol Levels

When individuals who experience traumatic stress during childhood enter adulthood, it has been found that they have smaller hippocampus structures than average. This is most likely a result of high salivary cortisol levels, which are common in kids with PTSD, as too much of it can be neurotoxic.
