- 147 out of 312 chemistry journals (47%) had at least one article that cited Wikipedia 
- Based on JCR’s impact factor, 77% of all the chemistry journals that cited Wikipedia were in the first or second quartile for impact factor
- The number of articles with Wikipedia citations increased each year – 6 in 2005, 31 in 2006, 84 in 2007, 86 in 2008, and 163 in 2009 
- The majority of the Wikipedia citations were used for general scientific information 

Citations to Wikipedia in chemistry journals: A preliminary study findings

- Reviewed scholarly chemistry journals from 2005 to 2009 from 3 publishers: American Chemical Society (ACS), Elsevier, and Springer
- Articles that cited Wikipedia were then sorted into 4 categories – general scientific information (includes 2 subcategories – mathematical equations & numerical values of physical and chemical properties), general non-scientific information, further scientific information and further non-scientific information, and image credits
