When the results of the surveys regarding white citizens is noted, by comparison, African American citizens have shown differing opinions about the education of students:

- compared to white citizens, African American citizens are more likely to believe that the achievements of white students exceed that of African American students (likely influenced by the larger amounts of educational intervention given to them)
- compared to white citizens, African American citizens are less likely to believe that African American students have the same educational opportunities that white students possess

The article's surveys took notice of the opinions of citizens regarding education and results indicated:

- white citizens tend to evaluate the importance of education and quality of schools based on the achievement rate of white students but do not notice the performances of African-American students
- white citizens are less likely to consider the problem of the racial achievement gap or think that any intervention is necessary to lessen the gap at all
