Closing Gaps with a Utility-Value Intervention- Utility-Value Intervention

This article's main focus is the effect of the utility-value intervention (UV) for achievement gaps between students. Since utility value is the idea of how useful a task is to fulfill future goals, this intervention is based on writing tasks that ask the student how relevant the course material is for their future, what they want or need to do. The idea is to motivate students to work harder, find the course interesting, and do better overall, especially for students who are at the negative end of achievement gaps. This can be applied for minority students who struggle with STEM courses by encouraging them to continue with the classes.
