The combined type subtype of ADHD is the most common subtype.  Those who have it will exhibit symptoms and signs associated with both hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive subtypes of ADHD.

There are three diagnostic types of ADHD:
- Inattentive Type (Formerly known as Attention-Deficit Disorder)
- Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
- Combined Type (exhibits symptoms of both Inattentive type and Hyperactive/Impulsive type)

ADHD: Types

Signs of inattention in ADHD include significant difficulty with tasks requiring prolonged focus, such as conversations or reading, and a tendency to avoid them. Individuals may fail to follow instructions, leading to incomplete schoolwork or other duties. Disorganization is also common, manifesting as poor time management, messy work, and trouble keeping things in order. Other key symptoms are a lack of attention to detail, being easily distracted by external stimuli, and frequent forgetfulness.

ADHD: Inattentive Type Symptoms

Hyperactivity in ADHD is defined by excessive movement. Common behaviors include fidgeting, squirming, or leaving one's seat when expected to remain seated, such as in a classroom or restaurant. Children may frequently run about or climb on things. Impulsive behaviors include blurting out answers before a question is finished, having difficulty waiting for one's turn, and interrupting or intruding on others' conversations or activities. This pattern of behavior often results in the individual being perceived as noisy and boisterous.
