Many of the women were immigrants. If the women were more traditional, they were seen as better in their community. But they were seen as repressed by whites. If the second-gen women lived by the same values, no benefits. Going to see a religious healer as opposed to a therapist or doctor was a common theme. Conflict in their head of depression diagnosis and personal beliefs.
