Comparing Degrees of Altruism

Maria and Chen are each given $100. They can choose to keep the money or donate any portion of it to a local food bank. Maria decides to donate $30 and keep $70. Chen decides to donate $10 and keep $90. Analyze the choices of both Maria and Chen using the concept that altruism is a matter of degree. In your analysis, explain how both individuals demonstrate a form of altruism, compare their relative levels of altruism, and contrast their behavior with that of a purely self-interested individual.
