A household has a choice between spending $1,000 on a vacation (a service that is used up quickly) or spending the same amount on a new, high-efficiency washing machine (a long-lived good). From the perspective of how household spending affects a household's stock of valuable items, analyze the similarities and differences in the financial impact of these two choices, both immediately after the purchase and over the next several years.
