Comparison between Evolutionary Psychology and Behavioral Genetics

Both evolutionary psychology and behavioral genetics study the interaction of genes and the environment, recognizing that genes contribute to both physical traits and patterns of cognition and behavior. However, they differ in their focus. Evolutionary psychology investigates how universal behavioral and cognitive patterns have evolved over time, emphasizing how these variations made individuals more successful at reproducing. In contrast, behavioral genetics examines how genes and environment interact to create individual differences in behavior in the present day.
