Comparison

Comparison of the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous Systems

The sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions of the autonomic nervous system have complementary functions. The sympathetic system prepares the body for stress-related 'fight-or-flight' activities, while the parasympathetic system is responsible for returning the body to routine 'rest-and-digest' operations. They work in tandem to maintain the body's internal balance.
