Comparison of Ultimatum Game Behavior: Rural Missourians vs. Kenyan Farmers

Data from ultimatum game experiments with rural Missourians in the US reveals that they are even more likely to reject low offers than Kenyan farmers. In terms of proposals, nearly every Missourian Proposer offered half of the pie. These findings caution against making simple conclusions about fairness based on nationality, as the behavior of this US group differs significantly from US students and is, in some respects, more extreme than that of the Kenyan farmers.
