Compulsive Stimulant Use as a Result of Neurotransmitter Depletion

The negative psychological and physical states caused by neurotransmitter depletion can drive compulsive stimulant use. Individuals may continue to take drugs like cocaine and amphetamines in an attempt to restore their pre-use neurochemical and psychological balance.
