Short Answer

Conditions for Equilibrium Collapse

An environmental system is maintained in a stable, high-coverage state by strong self-correcting forces. Explain the fundamental difference between a disturbance that the system can recover from and one that could cause this stable state to vanish entirely. In your explanation, describe how the underlying rules governing the system's year-to-year behavior must change for the stable state to be eliminated.
