Librarians have the duty of safeguarding, keeping, and providing information. One of the more personal ways librarians due this is through accepting and storing information a patron may conditionally give a library. It is also up to the patron whether that information is kept private, made public, requested for research, or added to a relevant collection.

Patron Confidentiality

Finding and preserving content that people have entrusted to librarian and information professionals is a task that is difficult, but builds trust. Preserving patron/personal/individual content in the digital domain can also be a task as the physical to digital information transfer can mean things can get lost if not done properly.
