Converting 62%, 135%, and 35.7% to Decimals

Convert each percent to its decimal form by shifting the decimal point two places to the left:

(a) 62%62\%: The decimal point starts at the far right of 6262 (i.e., 62.62.). Moving it two places to the left gives 0.620.62. Therefore, 62%=0.6262\% = 0.62.

(b) 135%135\%: The decimal point starts at the far right of 135135 (i.e., 135.135.). Moving it two places to the left gives 1.351.35. Because 135%135\% is greater than 100%100\%, the resulting decimal is greater than 11. Therefore, 135%=1.35135\% = 1.35.

(c) 35.7%35.7\%: The decimal point is already visible between 55 and 77. Moving it two places to the left requires inserting a placeholder zero, giving 0.3570.357. Therefore, 35.7%=0.35735.7\% = 0.357.
