- 567,715 people experienced homelessness in 2019 in the United States -1/3 of them were children
- 63% were sheltered homeless (in emergency shelters, transitional housing or safe havens)
- 37% unsheltered homeless (in public or private places not designed for sleeping)
- 8% of homeless are military veterans
- ~25% of homeless people experience chronic homelessness (a person with disability who has been homeless for a year or more OR has experienced at least 4 episodes of homelessness in the past 3 years with a combined length of at least 12 months)
- Disabilities include substance use, serious mental illness, developmental disabilities, PTSD, cognitive impairments from a brain injury or chronic physical illness or disability The number of homeless people has decreased since 2007
